“BestWingsLI.com” Founders Matt Kourie and Rob Wittman Bring Back Their Popular Wing and Beer Bash
October 16, 2015 (Oceanside, NY) – Matt Kourie and Rob Wittman are not only best friends but also share the love for a spectacular chicken wing. This alliance has turned the two pals into full blown bona fide “Wing Hunters” who have used their vast wealth of knowledge for one of America’s favorite finger foods into the popular wing review website, BestWingsLI.com. In 2014 they founded Wings & BeerFest then appropriately erected the largest wing festival in eastern NY, The NY Best Wings Festival in 2015, held in Westbury Long Island. Also serving as the Best Wings Championships, over 7k attend from all over NY and the Tri-State area. With so many Oktoberfest celebrations happening at any bar or fair, the two wanted to change things up by offering Buffalo wing fanatics an exclusive event just for them. “Wings & OktoBeerFest, Return of the Pint” will be held at Cannon’s Blackthorn in Rockville Centre on October 17, 2015. This time there will be two sessions. A 12pm-3pm and a 4pm-7pm. “We’re taking the spirit of the Oktoberfest season and fusing it with our favorite combo, wings and beer” says Kourie. “It’s just a fun excuse to celebrate the season, have wing fans dress up in Dirndls and Lederhosen but instead of traditional German fare, it’s wings and beer.”
The mega fun event sponsored by Wing Zone & WBAB 102.3 is geared for those 21 and over to enjoy. Wings & OktoBeerFest will feature the “Best Wings in Town Showdown” with top local restaurants competing for a chance to advance to the Championship round at the 2016 NY Best Wings Festival. In addition to wing-eating, there will be Oktoberfest themed costume contests, games, prizes and more. While in the past the event offered 2oz. beer tastings, in the spirit of the season they’ve brought back the beloved pint of beer, for the true wing and beer experience. Those who do not drink beer may still attend as the ticket includes wings. Beer is purchased at the venue by those who would like to partake. Attendees will get to vote for their favorite wings with a panel of celebrity judges which includes Dave “Rev” Ciancio of “Burger Conquest” and founding member of the New York City Wing-Off; Chef Plum of ABC’s “The Taste,” The Food Network, and Jamie Oliver’s “Foodtube,” Matt Kourie & Rob Wittman of BestWingsLI.com, Christine Gerani of Spot On Magazine, Adam Poch from CBS, “Big Brother” Season 13 and Travel Channel’s Bacon Paradise along with special guest Judge, Brian Clermont, Head Chef and Owner of Brews Brothers Grill, who will be awarded the Festival Favorite Award from their big win at the NY Best Wings Festival this past June at the 2nd session on Oct 17.

The BestWingsLI origin story is beautiful in its simplicity. Kourie and Wittman were on a singular quest and mission and that was to find the very best wings and to tell the world about those discoveries.
The two launched their wing review website, publishing critiques along with links to local wing eateries and more. They did all of the heavy lifting and, well, heavy eating! For their site, Kourie and Wittman, who got their start as teens working at chicken shacks like Pudgie’s Famous Chicken and Chicken Delight, respectively, sought out the best wing joints on Long Island after band practice and shows. They then extended the search into Brooklyn, Queens and New York City.
They played hard and ate similarly. “Rob and I have been bandmates and musicians for a long time,” Kourie said. “After rehearsals, it was our ritual to go for wings. We were wing lovers and wing nuts, like most people in America.”
Wittman furthered, “Wings are fun to eat and there is so much you can do with them in different flavors. They are addictive and crave-worthy. We knew we wanted to find the greatest wings and that it was our journey to find the best wings in New York.” That palpable passion for wings spilled over into the festival realm, since it was only a matter of time. The pair started small, with their popular seasonal bash, Wings and Beer Fest, which also featured craft breweries, and worked their way up to the New York Best Wings Festival which was host to over 7k attendees from NY and the tri-state area. With Wings & OktoBeerFest, the duo have made the most exclusive event with a hilarious twist for the ultimate wing & beer fan.
