Rock Stars come in many packages. Shayne Leighton is not just a rock star because of her fiery red hair and tremendous voice, she is a passionate best selling author and anti-bullying vigilante. She recently covered Pat Benatar’s “Invicible”. She rocked it out so we had to chat with her…Meet Shayne Leighton.

You did an amazing rendition of Pat Benatar’s “Invicible” was she someone you grew up listening to? Who else has inspired you?

Thanks so much! Pat is definitely a legend, and totally someone I listened to growing up. Of course “Love Is A Battlefield” is one of my all-time favorite songs. Other musical inspirations are Heart, Joan Jett, Bonnie Tyler, Stevie Nicks, and Cyndi Lauper, just to name a few!

Tell us a little bit about the project “Remember”.

Remember is a collaborative music project, similar to that of “We Are The World”, but is designed to bring people together to unite against bullying. (Click play above) It is a single and music video featuring Grammy-nominated Wendy Moten and Justin Merrick, artists featured on NBC’s “The Voice”, such as, Kris Thomas, Karina Iglesias, and Sarah Simmons, as well as others like myself, Linzy Rose, Nick Murphy, and even son of the late Isaac Hayes, Kojo Hayes. The song was written by Brenda O’Brien (writer of “Two Kings” performed by Pam Tillis and Kris Thomas), Steve Argy and myself. It was produced by Rob Roy, owner of Power Station Studios, and Steve Argy. Remember has definitely been a passion project for everyone involved. The song was recently released on October 7th, 2014. We hope to spread the message all over the nation to promote positivity, understanding, and love.

I hear you are a best selling author. When will your next novel be out?

The first two installments in my “Of Light and Darkness” series are both bestselling titles. It’s a series that is really close to my heart, as many of the characters are based on people I know, even though the series is a Gothic fairytale set in Prague. The third installment, “The Vampire’s Hourglass”, will be released from Decadent Publishing on October 28th, 2014.

You are a multi-talented artist and author. How do you balance all that you have achieved?

I try to practice what I love to do every single day. If I am inspired to write, I write. If the music side of my brain is buzzing, then I focus on that. I take my life and my career one day at a time, and hope for the best. It also helps that I have some solid family support that helps me get by. My husband and my mom give me more rock-solid support than I can ever deserve.

What’s next for Shayne?

I have a lot of plans in the works, and I think 2015 is going to be a whirlwind. I plan to join How To Be A Redhead’s “Rock It Like A Redhead” national tour to empower redheads and spread the “Remember” anti-bullying message along with promoting my debut EP with Spectra Music Group. I also plan on releasing my fifth novel, and fourth installment in the “Of Light and Darkness” series, while hosting book signings in cities across the US.
