IN THE MOLLIE PARNIS AUDITORIUM
(Westhampton Beach, NY – September, 2014) – Legendary guitar masters John Sebastian and David Grisman perform at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $55, $65, $75 and are available online at www.whbpac.org.
The musical history of John Sebastian and David Grisman dates back to their college days in the 1960s at New York University in the heyday of the Greenwich Village folk revival. The two made their first recording together as members of the Even Dozen Jug Band. It wasn’t until four decades later that singer/guitarist Sebastian and mandolinist Grisman finally reconnected.
John Sebastian played a major role in the mid-’60s rock revolution, incorporating traditional American folk practices into the rock paradigm. From his days as lead singer and songwriter for The Lovin’ Spoonful, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has pushed the envelope music with hits “Darling Be Home Soon,” “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Nashville Cats,” and his solo hit, the theme from “Welcome Back Kotter.”
David Grisman, spearheaded an acoustic music revolution with his unique, highly intricate, harmonically advanced hybrid of acoustic bluegrass, folk, and jazz he calls “Dawg” music. He’s collaborated with everyone from greats like Stephane Grapelli to, most famously, Jerry Garcia to produce incredible, genre-defying music.
With acoustic and roots music having formed the base of their respective music careers, it’s only natural for John Sebastian and David Grisman to collaborate on an album for Acoustic Disc, Grisman’s own record label. The result was Satisfied, a collection of acoustic duets featuring traditional folk tunes, blues, classic instrumentals and originals. And fans of these two revolutionary artists are sure to be “satisfied” with this enjoyable evening of spontaneous music.
